A Playthrough of the FreeSpace 2 Modification Into the Halls of Valhalla created by the ItHoV Team in 2006 on Insane Difficulty by Novachen.

Time for a classic campaign playthrough. Into the Halls of Valhalla from 2006. It takes place after Derelict and continue and end some story arcs that are left from there.
Also this playthrough was played on my newest build, at is on 5th September 2013, from my own source code branch. So with AVX CPU extensions, the possibility to play FS2 on DirectX again, aswell with activated PhysX that compute all asteroidparts and debris movements as well it influence its number. Even the graphical effects and differences are minimal here, because this campaign use, of course, only standard values aswell the standard MVP-models.
Into the Halls of Valhalla is somekind special for its time of release, because it have its focus on character and story development instead of challenging and unforgetable combat missions. So much of the missions are not very hard here, but it have more story than many other campaigns. Maybe this is one of the candidates if you want learn to play FreeSpace on higher difficult settings.
Reaching our new home in the far system of Tania Australis we get indeed a very hot welcome, because the local pirate clan want to show, why we are actually needed here.
Hints:
After the mission starts, approach the Outpost, but do not use your afterburner, keep your formation with your wingmates and wait for the Pirate attack. After Beta is down by detonators, the pirates will attack, first intercept the incoming Hercules, because they are interested in your wing.
After they are down, attack every enemy you like until they are down or the PRC Weakling arrives. This "cruiser" is only a beam-equipped Science Cruiser, so it can not withstand your fire very long, but if you do not intercept it, it beam can bring down the Socrates also very easy. So make this ship your highest priority. After you destroyed it kill any remaining enemy.
But this attack is not over yet, a wing of bombers try to take out the Socrates, protect it and take them out, against your Ares with Prometheus and Circe they should not have a chance to stand alive against you. After this wing is down, stay near the Socrates and take out all incoming bombers until they abort their attack, because the Pirates were able to detonate a container that takes out half of our convoy.
If there are any enemies left, eliminate them and approach the Fighterbay of the Tania Australis Outpost to end this mission.
